Each one of us devotes themselves to something they like doing in their spare time. Maybe you are a student. During the school year, your studies occupy the majority of your time. Maybe you are a worker and the largest part of your time is spent at your job. Maybe you are a mother. You spend your time raising your children but don’t have enough time to spend doing something for yourself… whatever the case may be, you are a person and you spend your time doing something! People work almost everyday, every months, all year long…Photo / Video / Photo vKontakte
Summer – this is the one time in the year when your body is thirsting for a BREAK! Each one of us finds themselves asking the question; “Where and How can I take a break, so that I truly felt rested and my family and friends could be there too?”
I have a very unique suggestion for you!!! And if you take my advice (at least one time) you might jut find yourself taking me up on my offer every summer, like I have been doing! What is the “Alpha and Omega” Summer Camp? I have no idea if I will be able to convey the true experience of what goes on there with these little typed letters… But I will try! Every year in summer time, the Christian Youth Society “Alpha and Omega” takes a trip to the sea! This is an amazing time when many talented, interesting, and original people gather together in one place. Many go on to become great friends afterwards. I personally would not trade this time for anything in the world. The camp takes place for 8-10 days depending on the circumstances that year. The programme is so full, diverse and interesting, that everyone can find activities to suit their personality. I will list just a few of them here: For those who like to get their heart racing – almost any form of sport can be found (football (soccer), basketball, volleyball, Frisbee, baseball, table tennis, etc.), for those who like to tan on the beach there are beach games near the sea (relay races/obstacle courses, wet volleyball, etc.) for those who are into brain-involving games, we have quests and scavenger hunts over the whole territory of the camp. If you have children, and you think that none of this interests you, then think again! We have a special family game “mammy, daddy and me – the sporty family”! And this is far from everything! More can be said about the evening programme. Each evening has been carefully planned. In the end you’ll learn just how quickly 10 days can fly by to feel like only 1. During the times of the evening programmes more and more new talents are realized on the stage. This gives everyone the opportunity to display their talents and to watch the talents of those around them, to laugh at the clean humour, and to participate in audience-involving activities.
Why is this camp always fun and interesting? What could this camp possibly offer that unites such a wide range of peple in society? Why do people want to go there again and againm year after year? The answer to these questions can be summed up in one word: This camp is “CHRISTIAN”. Let me explain a bit, and the meaning behind this will be clear.
Besides the activities and evening programmes, each day we learn something new about our personal relationships with God. Our camp starts each morning with a sermon which is shared by Pastor Roland Syens. This is a wonderful time when you can reflect about yourself and about the things in your life which you could – or need – to change, so that your life can become brighter, fuller, and more interesting. During this time, your heart begins to beat stronger than usual because you understand that the Lord Himself is speaking to you. This year’s theme was “Relationships: Horizontal and Vertical.” Vertical relationships are those we have with God and horizontal relationships are with one another. Over the course of eight days we examined very interesting topics which helped us to ‘fine tune’ our relationships not only with God, but also with each other. The sermon was given each morning so that we had the chance to reflect and think about it over the course of the day. Before the evening programme, we spent time in small discussion groups, where people were able to share their impressions and talk about the theme for that day.
I had the honour of being one of the leaders for a discussion group. This was a huge blessing and a time of spiritual growth for me. Each day we had around 20 people come to our group. They shared their differing outlooks and stories from their lives. Some stories were so funny they made your face and stomach hurt from laughing, others were so touching they brought tears to your eyes. This time of fellowship turned 20 different people into one big family. Each member was always ready to help and support the others.
And this is only a small part of the amazing impressions and experiences we were all left with after the camp. If you would like to experience this for yourself and revitalize your spirit in such a friendly group of people then don’t wait for next summer – come to the youth centre “Alpha and Omega” every Sunday at 2:00pm at the address; ul. Dimitrova 19. We would be glad o get to know you and sign you up for our next camp – “Alpha and Omega” 2010.
